Filming has been halted on Jurassic World: Dominion after ‘a few’ positive coronavirus test results were received on set.
While those who tested positive are now testing negative, filming on the Chris Pratt, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum movie has been halted for two weeks as a precaution.
After a tweet from director Colin Trevorrow, a statement was issued on the official Jurassic World Twitter, alongside a snap of a dinosaur wearing a mask.
‘Late last night, we were informed that the Jurassic World: Dominion production experienced a small amount of positive tests for COVID-19,’ it read.
‘Even though subsequent tests proved negative this morning, due to our rigid protocols and to ensure that the safety & well-being of our entire cast & crew is paramount at all times, those who initially tested positive are currently self-isolating, as are those who they have come into contact with.
‘As a result filming has been temporarily paused & will resume in accordance with established safety guidelines.’
Colin’s statement read: ‘Woke up to the news we had a few positive Coronavirus tests on Jurassic World: Dominion. All tested negative shortly after, but due to our safety protocols we’re going to pause for two weeks. Back soon.’
Sam Neill previously revealed that the cast have been testing for the virus three times a week as they continued filming.
Speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald, he explained: ‘We are in this kind of bubble where we are insulated from the world and as long as I don’t turn on the news – which sort of gets worse every day – I am perfectly happy.’
The news comes after it was announced that the movie’s release date will be pushed back a full year, to 2022.
It’s reported that the delay is not due to issues with production or because of the coronavirus pandemic – it’s Universal not wanting to overpack their already busy release schedule for 2021.
Films like Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow and James Bond’s No Time To Die have all been moved to next year, with Empire reporting that Universal is pushing back Jurassic World to ensure it makes just as much as it has the potential to on its original release.
It was confirmed earlier this year that fans will get to see some of the original cast from Jurassic Park return, with Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum all making a comeback for Dominion.
They’ll star alongside Chris Pratt, Justice Smith, and Jake Johnson.
Metro.co.uk has contacted Universal for further comment.
Jurassic World: Dominion is set for release on June 10, 2022.
