Fans furious with Iain Sterlings' 'Nigerian prince' comment
Fans of Love Island have threatened to call Ofcom after comedian Ian Stirling made an “inappropriate” joke about a Nigerian Prince.
The 35-year-old, who is married to Laura Whitmore, provides the voiceover for the ITV2 dating show and often includes gags in his commentary.
However, fans felt that he went too far with the controversial comment on Tuesday night’s episode.
He made the remark during a conversation between Mal Nichol and Sammy Root, when she asked him if he had ever been stung by a bee.
In his voiceover Iain said: “Mal wants to know if Sammy has ever been stung.

A user called @HerRoyalDykness wrote: “Disappointed in the Nigerian Prince ‘joke’ by #IainStirling tonight not funny #LoveIsland.”

@SomethinAboutRi said: ‘That Nigerian comment they said on Love Island was below the belt.’
Meanwhile @emanchiji indicated that they would be making a formal complaint writing: “Nigerian Prince is about to become our first Ofcom moment of the year.”
@HerRoyalDykness said: ”Nigerian Prince ‘joke’ p**sed me off too. Inappropriate imo.”
@simply_kaisha added: “Omg ofcom hello??! What was that comment about a Nigerian prince winning the lottery.”
Express.co.uk has contacted ITV and Iain’s representatives for comment.
This comes after it was revealed that 130 Love Island viewers complained to Ofcom about the programme over the past week.
According to the regulator’s website, 66 complaints were lodged on June 21 and 64 were made on June 23.
Ofcom confirmed to Express.co.uk the majority of complaints related to “alleged bullying, microaggression and misogyny by Sammy Root”.
The others were complaints objecting to Molly Marsh’s eviction on Friday night’s dramatic instalment of the ITV2 series.
One time favourite to win Molly ended up being booted off the show when bombshell Kady McDermott decided to couple up with her man, Zach Noble.
