Outlanderis enjoyed by so many fans because of the beautiful love story between JamieFraser and Claire Randall (Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe). Fans can’tseem to get enough of these characters. Even Balfe is moved by Jamie and Claire’srelationship. Here’s the sweet lesson she said she learned from the time-travelingcouple.
What Caitriona Balfe did before Outlander
Before starring in the hit series Outlander, Balfe madeher acting debut in the 2011 film Super 8. After that, she appeared inthe 2012 mini-series The Beauty Inside. Her other acting credits includeappearances in Lost Angeles (2012), Crush (2013), and Now YouSee Me (2013).
What Caitriona Balfe loves about playing Claire in Outlander
Balfe toldParade she loves that she can take a long journey through a character’slife. When the show began, Claire was in her late 20s. As the show progresses,we get to see the character in her mid-50s. Balfe said she has enjoyed seeingClaire mature over the years:
That has been the great thing of playing this character. We’ve taken her as a young woman – she was definitely in her late 20s – and her husband was the person she deferred to in so many ways. Claire has grown so much through this. Claire is now in her mid-50s. It has been incredible to walk that life with this character and watch her grow. Claire was a very hot-headed and quick-tempered person. Her need for justice and her need to be able to say something in the moment hasn’t changed, but what has been interesting is to watch her become wiser and not as tempestuous and to learn a little calm.
That’s the beauty of being able to do a show. We’ve been at it 6-1/2 years. You get to let these characters evolve in a very organic way. I think Sam and I have loved being given that opportunity to take these characters on such a journey.
