Phillip Schofield fights back tears as he opens up to Holly Willoughby about ‘pain and upset’ as he comes out as gay – The Sun

AN emotional Phillip Schofield fought back tears as he was supported with hugs and cheers by This Morning colleagues as he bravely revealed he is gay live on air.

The 57-year-old presenter released a statement on Instagram minutes before going on air today alongside colleague and pal Holly Willoughby.

Holly read out the statement before Phil revealed the trauma behind his decision to publicly reveal his sexuality after 27 years of marriage.

He also paid emotional tributes to his wife Steph and daughters Molly, 27, and Ruby, 24, for their support as they watched on at home.

Holly said: "I know that is something you have been living with, that inner conflict, for a long time."

Phil replied: "I have made this decision which is essential for me and essential for my head.

"I'm really very aware Steph and the girls are home watching this and we're all together and they've been supporting as we get to this moment because we all knew it was coming.

"I feel a little lighter but I am also very, very aware that it causes pain and it causes upset.
