The mainline series may have concluded earlier this year, but Power fans are still tuning into the Starz series each week to see how the story pans out in the brand new spin-off. After the midseason finale aired last night, there could be a long wait ahead before Power Book II reveals Tariq’s fate.
Episode six, The Gift of the Magi, of Power’s first spin-off series aired last night and may have landed Tariq in hot water.
Following the death of his father, James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick (played by Omari Hardwick), in season six, it was eventually revealed Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) was the one who pulled the trigger.
However, Book II: Ghost opened with his mother Tasha (Naturi Naughton) in jail after taking the fall for her husband’s murder and charged for leading a major drug operation.
Now the troubled young entrepreneur is trying to balance his college responsibilities whilst his partnership with drug queen pin (Monet) is paying for Tasha’s mounting defence case.
Unfortunately, banking on shady lawyers Davis Maclean (Method Man) and Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson) has proven to be a risky move in the latest episode.
After Saxe’s niece Riley (Andrea Lee Christensen) dug up some major dirt on Ghost’s killing, Tariq was drugged and admitted to the crime on video.
His thoughtless mistake may have landed him some significant jail time now Tariq has finally turned 18.
Sadly, fans may have to wait some months to see the outcome of Tariq’s confession, as production on season one, part two has only just started up again.
Although filming was only planned to be put on hold for a week, the outbreak of coronavirus in March has meant most major TV shows have been forced to undergo a long hiatus.
In the meantime, fans have been reacting to the new episodes airing each week, and eager viewers have been able to check out new instalments earlier on the Starz streaming app and Starzplay in the UK.
As the excruciating wait for the second half of Book II’s first season gets underway, fans weren’t too impressed by Tariq’s mindless confession in episode five.
Viewers took to Reddit following the latest episode, and have predicted some disastrous consequences to come when Power continues.

Redditor NineteenAD9 said: “This was a good episode. It’ll be interesting to see how Tariq gets out of this.
“I’m not an expert, but it feels like the evidence Saxe has to convict Tariq of murder was obtained unlawfully.”
Reactions to the new season have been somewhat mixed so far, but the midseason finale’s shocking cliffhangers have given fans plenty to talk about during the ongoing break.
However, most viewers agree Tariq should be made accountable for letting slip some incriminating information, even under the effects of drugs and alcohol.
The fan continued: “Drunk or not, Tariq dumb as f**k for confessing to a murder in the open.
“Even dumber for leaving product in that bulls**t spot in the room. Even dumber for having face lock on his phone.”
A series of easily avoidable mistakes have led to Tariq’s downfall by the season finale, and a significant portion of the audience are rooting to see Ghost’s killer behind bars.
No release date for Power’s return has been confirmed, though, so fans will have to keep their eyes out for updates on the second five episodes of Book II.
