Spoilers: 6 questions we have after Hollyoaks' huge 25th anniversary week

Hollyoaks celebrated a whopping 25 years on the telly this week, and it did so in an epic fashion.

It’s been something of a game-changing week for the Channel 4 soap, as the McQueen clan found themselves the victims of a devastating blackmail plot, while Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) revealed that she’s pregnant.

Meanwhile, Tom Cunningham’s (Ellis Hollins) decision to end his relationship with Yazz Maalik (Haiesha Mistry) ultimately resulted in the pair getting engaged after Yazz pulled out all the stops to prove just how much she loves him.

And last but oh so not least, Kurt Benson (Jeremy Edwards) returned from the dead — much to the shock of Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard).

It’s a week that we’ll never forget, that’s for sure, but it’s also one that’s left us with as many questions as it did answers, and that’s made the future a whole lot more exciting.

As Tony said at the episode’s end, we ‘ain’t seen nothing yet!’

What is Silas up to?

There were many talking points in tonight’s celebratory instalment, but the biggest is without a doubt the return of Silas Blissett (Jeff Rawle), after he was revealed to be the mystery blackmailer that’s been stalking the McQueen clan.

But what does Silas want?

Actor Jeff answers that one for us. He said: ‘One word: McQueens. Unfinished business with Mercedes. She is “The Queen” of the McQueens. The most elusive piece on his chessboard. Mercedes’ son, Bobby is Silas’s great-grandson.

‘It has long been a cause of dark disquiet with Silas.  The time has come to put things right.’

The question is: will he succeed in getting revenge?

Will a McQueen pay the ultimate price?

Given the effort that Silas has gone to in order to get revenge on the McQueens — coupled with the fact that he’s, you know, a deadly killer — it’s likely that there’s no lengths he won’t go to in order to see this though to the end.

But will one of the McQueen clan pay for their sins with their life?

Mercedes seems to be his target, and he had her within his grasp in tonight’s episode at one point, but will he ultimately kill her?

She is, in a sense, the one that got away.

Mercedes has had something of a tough year, but happiness is ultimately within touching distance now that she’s got Sylver (David Tag) back in her life, and they’ve got a baby on the way.

Will Silas snatch it all away from her in one fell swoop?

Who is Silas’ accomplice?

Silas’ identity was revealed pretty early on in tonight’s episode, which certainly seems to suggest that there is another twist to come.

What’s more, he was seen momentarily on the phone, voicing his disdain in regards to the theatricality used in the mission to take down the McQueens.

Such a scene therefore suggests that the creepy doll wasn’t actually his idea, which means that he’s working alongside someone else.

But who?

Will Kurt stick around?

Kurt’s return left Tony in compete and utter shock, as the chef was forced to process the fact that his best friend was alive all this time.

However, after he came to terms with the discovery, he and Kurt reminisced about the past, and it was like old times once more.

The question is: will Kurt stick around in the village now that he no longer has to keep a low profile?

He certainly seems keen, and spoilers for next week indicate that he’s not going anywhere, as he sets his sights on Verity Hutchinson (Eva O’Hara).

Will Tony win back Diane?

The closing moments of tonight’s episode were riddled with nostalgia in the best way imaginable, but said moments were also extremely important for Tony, as he came to realise that Diane (Alex Fletcher) is, in fact, the love of his life.

After some encouragement from Kurt, he resolved to win her back, but will he succeed in doing so?

Remember, he has yet to discover what evil Edward (Joe McGann) has been up to, and now that the sinister surgeon has rekindled his romance with Diane, he’ll likely fight harder to ensure nothing ruins it — something which could ultimately endanger Tony.

Love conquers all, but is Edward an exception to that rule?

Will Tom and Yazz live happily ever after?

Tom was overwhelmed when he discovered the effort that Yazz had gone to in order to prove just how much she loves him.

After demonstrating her love via a video message — which featured every resident in the village — she got down on one knee and proposed, and Tom said yes!

But will they be able to make their romance work?

Given this is Hollyoaks we’re talking about, happy ever after might be a little bit of a stretch, but will they be able to prove that as long as they’ve got one another, anything is possible?

Hollyoaks continues Thursday October 22 at 7pm on E4.
