Steph McGovern gets mammogram on Steph’s Packed Lunch
Steph McGovern was moved to tears live on air as she recalled a personal loss she had suffered at the hands of cancer.
The most recent instalment Steph’s Packed Lunch aired a special episode focusing on cancer, leaving the 41-year-old struggling to contain her emotions during the moving programme.
“It is hard to talk about, you could see me then getting emotional because I was remembering the person I lost, a close friend, who helped me get to where I am in my career and even starting sets me off, it’s so deep and emotional.”
Steph’s emotional response came after she bravely demonstrated to viewers what it’s like to have a potentially life-saving mammogram by undergoing the procedure live on air.
Her aim was to encourage more women to book their mammograms, which detect early cancer signs.
Earlier in the programme Steph underwent the procedure in a breast screening truck parked outside the show’s studio in Leeds.
During the test, she explained: “I should say as well, the tears in my eyes are not because this is in any way painful, it’s really not, it’s the magnitude of it all, you’re saving lives by doing this.
“I mean, it is uncomfortable, but that is not painful at all, honestly, it’s like someone just squeezing you.
“This technology is so important for saving lives and actually the reality is you come in, you’ll meet someone lovely at reception, you get a nice private place to change, and you go through this and it takes minutes and that’s it done.”

Steph stressed that although the procedure seems “a bit weird,” those doing the check-ups do them on a daily basis.
The special programme also featured cancer survivors and those currently undergoing treatment.
