The hit CBS show comes to a close in an hour-long special made up of two half-hour long episodes and The Big Bang Theory fans are scared to let go of the likes of Sheldon Cooper (played by Jim Parsons) and Penny Hofstadter (Kaley Cuoco).
Now, with just over 24 hours before the final ever episode the cast has done a group interview in which they talk about a range of topics including how they will replace the show, or not.
They spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the subject.
Kaley Cuoco said: “I’m going to owe all of my career to this show. No matter what I do after this. This is what made us who we are. We were here for 12 years. This is a big part of our career.
Even when we renegotiate and get new seasons, we can never believe it
Jim Parsons added: “Whatever ends up happening to us, this is life-altering. You may be part of something else that is as life-altering as this, but that’s a high bar to hurdle.”
Leonard Hofstadter star Johnny Galecki went even further and said the show’s ending will be even worse than that of Friends, which left its fans devastated: “It will never be fully eclipsed. We will always be associated with one another.
“It’s such an incredibly unique experience that only the seven of us can really understand having. You can talk about the cast of Friends, but this is different in its own way. There is no one else but this circle of seven that can even pretend to relate.”
However, it was revealed the cast were split over whether the show would be a success or not when they joined 12 years ago.
Looking back, Kaley opened the debate: “And we never expected any of this to happen. We didn’t wake up in season three and think this show is going on forever. We’ve never spoken that way. Even when we renegotiate and get new seasons, we can never believe it.”
Simon Helberg, who has played Howard Wolowitz since season one, went back to the pilot episode and spoke of the conflict in the cast as to the show’s future success: “I remember talking to you, Kaley, during the pilot about whether you thought it would go.
“I remember you saying, ‘I don’t know, maybe? It’s hard to say.’
“And I remember Kunal saying, [imitating his voice] ‘Oh yes, absolutely.’ I asked him how many pilots he’s done. He said none. [He looks at Nayyar] It’s the last time you were right about anything.”
The stars of the show also spoke about potential spinoffs with Johnny relaying his dreams of a “single-camera version” of the show.
However, he added the characters are too linked to have a spinoff with one just one person, or even two.
He appears to hint the show’s ending will see the group head off into the sunset as a whole and not disappear as couples or individuals.
One storyline which could be about to hit one of the group’s couples in the finale is Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) and Sheldon announcing they are expecting their first child.
Fans have been speculating ever since a huge clue was announced by the show.
Whatever happens, fans can look forward to a “wonderful” episode, according to creator Chuck Lorre.
He spoke about the inspiration for the series finale and what it will include.
Meanwhile, Amy star Mayim has revealed a new look and “identity” post-Amy and seems to be revelling in life after the show.
Fans will not have to wait long to find out how the show ends.
Big Bang Theory season finale airs Thursday on CBS and in the UK on E4.
