The Handmaid’s Tale series four has seen June Osborne (played by Elizabeth Moss) lead the rebellion in the hope of taking down the Gilead Government. It’s been a major uphill battle from the beginning with Commanders and Wives trying to stop her along the way. One of the most recent villains of the Hulu drama was introduced at the beginning of series four.

Who is Esther?
The Handmaid’s Tale first returned for its latest series on Wednesday, April 28, on Hulu.
In the premiere episode Pigs, fans met Esther (McKenna Grace), a young wife who had an arranged marriage with the elderly Commander Keyes (
When Mayday contacted her through the Marthas, she agreed to house June and the other handmaids after helping the 86 children to escape Gilead.
During their stay, June and Esther got to know one another and the experiences they went through.
Esther had tried to force Janine (Madeline Brewer) to eat a pig she had named Mr Darcy for dinner but the handmaid refused to.
June told her to take it easy on Janine, discussing some of the things she had been put through by Gilead.
In return, Esther shared her own war stories, revealing that as her husband wasn’t able to sexually perform but still wanted a child, he had her raped by Guardians, Eyes and other Commanders.
This included the likes of Guadian Pogue (David Thompson) who raped her numerous times.
Later on, a drunken Pogue is seen trespassing on the Keyes farm.
The Handmaids who were disguised as Marthas, started beating him and when they found out about Esther’s abuse, they took him to the barn.
This is where they carried out a mock Salvaging with Esther stabbing him to death.
But this was far from the end of Esther’s story as June was to discover.

She found out the young wife had been poisoning the Commander with nightshade.
Her home was raided shortly after the Handmaids were able to escape to the next safe house.
In another episode, Nick Blaine (Max Minghella) said it was on this night that Esther was arrested.
Fans will be seeing more of Esther in the penultimate episode of season four.
Tonight, Wednesday, June 9, will air episode nine which is called Progress.
Not too many details have been revealed but Esther is expected to make an appearance.
After starting off as a Wife, she will be demoted because of her actions with the Commander.
Her character synopsis in the episode simply reads: “[Esther] Will appear as a new handmaid far away from her original home.”
But will she be rescued as well from the life that June fought so hard to get away from?
