Fans of Netflix hit Virgin River were ecstatic when series star Alexandra Breckenridge, who portrays Mel Monroe, released an Instagram video with an exciting update about the third season of the show. Fans are delighted filming is finally underway and the cast have been reunited after Netflix renewed the show last December.
In an Instagram video posted on the official Virgin River page, Alexandra Breckenridge addressed the fans who have been patiently waiting for any updates on the romantic drama series.
The caption read: “WATCH AND LEARN! #virginriverseries #virginrivernetflix #netflix #virginriverseriesnetflix #excitment #happy #joy”.
Breckenridge said in the video: “So I just heard about some really exciting news I thought we should share.
“What do you think Virgin River team? Should we tell everybody?”
Teasing fans, she paused for a moment, then continued: “I think we should tell them.”
The video then cut to star Martin Henderson, who plays bar owner Jack Sheridan, and he added: “You don’t have to wait much longer”.
As the video continued to play, the rest of the cast appeared in a montage, explaining that” “Virgin River, season three, July 9, Netflix, 10 episodes” is coming very soon.
Henderson confirmed at the end of the video: “Because of your love for the show, Netflix are going to stream season three of Virgin River on July 9th”.
Fans were beside themselves at the news of the release date.
They quickly started commenting on the video expressing their happiness.
One fan wrote on Instagram: “Best news I’ve heard in a while I can’t wait!!! [eye heart emoji]”.
Another said: “Waaaaaahhhh! oh my Virgin River heart!”
“AWESOME NEWS!!! Never thought I’d be wanting June to pass quickly!” a third wrote.
The romantic drama, based on the Virgin River series of novels by Robyn Carr, follows the journey of Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge), a nurse practitioner who moves to the small town from Los Angeles.
Mel and local good guy Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) slowly fell in love despite various complications.
However, Jack was shot by an anonymous shooter in the season two finale, leaving Mel desperately trying to save his life.
Fans have been theorising who the shooter is since the finale aired.
Fans are delighted to hear that the show is returning very soon, as they should get answers about Jack’s killer.
Showrunner Sue Tenney recently gave hints of the forthcoming season to Parade magazine, saying: “In a future season(s), my co-executive producer Amy Robertson and I want to explore how our characters will react both individually, and as a group, under pressure.”
Tenney also revealed that season two cliffhangers will all be answered in the third season and fans will have to “wait for Season 3”.
The main plot will “go through trying to figure out who shot Jack” and this storyline could play out “over several seasons,” Tenney told TV Line.
Virgin River seasons 1 and 2 are available on Netflix.
