KSI FOUND himself at the centre of a Twitter storm after being accused of transphobia by viewers.
The YouTuber issued an initial apology – but ended up aggravating the situation even more.
What did KSI say?
The drama kicked off in March 2021 when a Twitter user tweeted: "ksi is transphobic"
The YouTuber – real name Olajide ‘JJ’ Olatunji – promptly replied: "How am I transphobic?"
The user responded: "i really can’t be expected to believe that you, a grown man, didn’t know tr**** is a slur and called a trans man a chick by mistake".
KSI, who has over 12 million subscribers on YouTube, used the slur in one of his videos with his YouTube group The Sidemen.
After KSI replied to the tweet, many other users accused him of misgendering and using offensive language.
What did KSI say in his apology?
KSI responded to the criticism on Twitter, initially tweeting: “Hold up, people actually think I’m transphobic?”
When followers responded to the tweet agreeing with the YouTuber, KSI issued an apology – but only angered his followers more.
In a now deleted first apology, he actually included the slur, writing: “My bad for saying tr**** and other transgender slurs. Honestly didn’t even know they were slurs. I know now though. Mans educating himself haha."
When his followers pointed out that he had said the slur again, he deleted the tweet and issued a new apology.
He wrote: “My bad for saying transgender slurs. Honestly didn’t even know they were slurs. I know now though.”
KSI later encouraged his followers to embrace "positivity".
He wrote: "2021, positive vibes only. Need to stop with the hate man. On all sides. Including people who support me. Life’s too short to be angry and hateful towards other people. Only way we advance is with positivity."
KSI couldn't resist a final dig at his long-time nemesis as he added: "F*** Jake Paul though".
This is not the first time KSI has been in hot water.
In 2012 he was embroiled in controversy after a Eurogamer event due to supposed sexual harassment of attendees.
Microsoft cut ties with him and he was banned for life from the expo.
He addressed the controversy in his 2015 autobiography, entitled KSI: I Am A B*****d.
The YouTuber is also known for his long time feud with fellow YouTuber Logan Paul – and the pair have battled each other in two highly-publicised boxing matches.
