Saturday Night Live will share a Christmas special, featuring holiday-themed clips from various episodes throughout the 47 seasons of the show.

When is the Saturday Night Live Christmas Special 2021?

On Tuesday, December 21, 2021, the Saturday Night Live Christmas Special will air on NBC from 9pm to 11pm ET.

The episode will feature clips and performances from various seasons, highlighting some of the sketches the cast has done in lieu of the holidays.

Following the last SNL episode of the year, the Christmas special will also be available for streaming on the NBC website, Peacock, and Hulu.

SNL also aired a two-hour Thanksgiving special on November 24, 2021.

Season 47 will likely continue in the new year, with updated Covid-19 precautions being put into place.

The December 18, 2021 episode is the first episode of the season not recorded in front of a live audience, due to a spike in coronavirus cases in New York City.

What is Saturday Night Live?

First premiering in 1975, SNL is a sketch comedy show mostly performed in front of a live studio audience on Saturday nights in New York.

Created by Lorne Michaels and developed by Dick Ersebol, the show became Saturday Night Live in the 1980s.

Michaels has been the showrunner since its conception, taking a break for a few years but returning in 1985.

SNL has earned over 80 Primetime Emmy Awards, and is one of the longest-running network television programs of all time.

Each week, a celebrity guest appears as the host and stars in sketches along an ensemble cast of comedians. Accompanying them is a musical guest, who performs multiple times throughout the show.

Saturday Night Live premieres on Saturday nights at 11.30pm ET on NBC. December 18, 2021, will mark the last new episode until 2022.
