Boy, 13, 'stabbed to death by attacker who knifed him in back of the neck' in a field in Reading

MURDER detectives are investigating after a schoolboy was reportedly stabbed to death in a field today.

It is thought an unknown attacker viciously stabbed the unnamed 13-year-old in the back of the neck and left him for dead.




Murder squad detectives from the Thames Valley Police Major Crime Team were drafted in after the alleged knife attack, which is thought to have taken place shortly after dusk tonight in Emmer Green, Berks.

A police cordon is in place around Gravel Hill Road, Emmer Green, reports Berkshire Live.

Senior detectives, forensic science officers and uniformed police have been called in after the alarm was raised to the stabbing,

Neigthbours at the police cordon said that they had been told the boy, who they said was aged 13 years, had died as a result of his stab wounds.

It is not yet known whether if the boy died at the scene.

Police previously Tweeted they were dealing with a "serious incident" and took to Facebook to ask local people the stay away from the scene.

One local resident who was in Gravel Hill Road said: "I know it was a young teen who has been stabbed. I have heard that he has died and that murder squad police are at the scene.

"I feel so desperately sad for the lad's parents – what must they be going through – so soon after Christmas and into the New Year?

"It is a real tragedy. I haven't heard what sparked the attack but the fact the scene is in a field is quite unusual."

Police and plain-clothed detectives were carrying out house-to-house inquiries within the police cordon.

Senior officers from the Thames Valley Police Major Crime Team were involved in a briefing to establish early details of what had happened.

There were no details of whether anyone had been arrested in connection with the stabbing.
