Dwarf 'adult' shunned by adoptive parents who claimed she's a grown-up 'sociopath' IS a child, birth mum insists

THE biological mother of "abandoned dwarf" Natalia Barnett has disputed claims that she is an "adult" and a "sociopath" as alleged by the US family who adopted her.

Anna Volodymyrivna Gava, 40, of Mykolaiv, in Southern Ukraine, maintains that her child is 16-years-old and that she has a rare form of dwarfism.

Supposed-teenager Natalia is at the centre of a court case after her adopted parents Kristine and Michael Barnett were charged with felony neglect for allegedly abandoning her.

They changed her birthdate from September 4, 2003 to 1989, and then moved her into an rented apartment in Lafayette, Indiana, back in 2013, DailyMail.com reported.

From there it's claimed that they cut-off all contact and moved to Canada with their oldest son Jacob, so he could attend university there.

Anna was shocked by the allegations after being forced to place her daughter with adoptive parents when she found out about her disabilities.

She claims that both her mother and doctors told her "leave her, don't ruin your life" and knew that she would not be able to afford surgery to help her to live a better life.

Anna learned six months into her pregnancy that Natalia would have a "complex pathology" and shortly after the birth placed her with an orphanage.

She explained the last memory of her daughter: "Short little legs, short little arms. She had no neck. I did not see my baby girl after that.

"They said the baby would never be good, that she would never be able to move, that she would be chained to a chair or to a bed."

Daughter, forgive me for what happened 16 years ago. Visit soon for me to see you

Anna spoke out after the Barnetts' made claims against her daughter.

Prior to that she believed her daughter was living a happy life.

She said: "She now lives in America with adoptive parents who want to ditch her.

"I thought everything was okay with her and it turned out that it's not all okay."

Anna has made a plea to encourage her daughter to return to Ukraine when she is 18-years-old so they can be reunited.

She said: "Daughter, forgive me for what happened 16 years ago. Visit soon for me to see you.

"We are waiting for you. You have two sisters and two brothers."

The Barnett's have alleged that Natalia is actually an adult "sociopath" with dwarfism who is pretending to be a child.

They adopted her in 2010 but according to documents obtained by the Daily Mail she first arrived in the US in 2008 and was initially placed with another family.

When Kristine, 45, and now-ex husband Michael, 43, took her in they knew she had Spondyloepimetaphyseal dysplasia, a bone disorder that would prevent her from growing taller than three feet.

After she joined their family, they allegedly doubted her age after noticing that she had a pubic hair, was having periods and also had a large vocabulary that was way beyond her years.

When the then-couple took her to medical experts for advice in 2012, after she struggled with mental health issues, they claim to have been told it was likely that she was far older than previously suggested.

That same year the couple lodged an emergency petition to alter Natalia's date of birth with Marion Superior Court to help her to get treatment as an adult and moved away.

In a recent interview, Kristine Barnett claimed that Natalia had attacked other children, tried to poison her coffee with bleach and threatened to stab family members and hide their bodies.

She told DailyMailTV: "She was standing over people in the middle of the night. You couldn't go to sleep. We had to hide all the sharp objects.

"I saw her putting chemicals, bleach, Windex something like that, in my coffee and I asked her, what are you doing? She said, I am trying to poison you."

However, prosecutors allege the couple put Natalia's life at risk, stating that they endangered the life or health of a dependent and denied her support and an education.

Natalia now lives with a Christian family outside of Indianapolis.

The court case continues, Michael is due for another appearance later this month and Kristine is due to appear in December, they both deny the charges.
