A Queens man knifed his wife to death, admitted to the slaying in a text message to her sister, and then hanged himself from a nearby tree on Friday night, law enforcement sources said.
The suspect, who was not immediately identified, killed his 27-year-old wife at a home on Albert Road near Whitelaw Street in Ozone Park, the sources said.
He then texted the woman’s sister to tell her his wife was dead inside the house — and that there was a spare key under a flower pot, police sources added. The sister rushed to the home at around 7:30 p.m. and used the key to get inside — where she discovered the body.
Police conducting a helicopter search for the husband found him hanged from a tree in a wooded area off 165th Avenue in Howard Beach.
The suspect was arrested for strangling the woman in August, law enforcement sources said.
A distraught woman at the scene of the murder Friday night said she’d helped the slain wife move out of the house because she feared for her safety.
“I moved her out. I can’t believe this happened. I moved her out because she left him — they were fighting,” the woman, who identified herself as Wanda said.
“I told her don’t go back there,” she added.
Identities are being withheld pending family notification. The investigation was ongoing Friday night.
