Royal wedding anniversary – How did Meghan Markle and Prince Harry celebrate their first wedding anniversary and where was it held?

IT’S been one year since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle delighted crowds by sealing their very modern wedding with a kiss.

Much has been packed into their first year of marriage, including touring overseas, moving home and introducing their gorgeous new baby boy, Archie. But how have the royals marked their first wedding anniversary, and where was the ceremony held?

How have Meghan Markle and Prince Harry celebrated their first wedding anniversary?

For starters, they’ve delighted fans by sharing a collection of candid snaps taken before, during and after the marriage ceremony.

In the black and white snaps, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex can be seen laughing and joking together along with Prince William as they said their 'I do's' at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.

The couple’s @Sussexroyal Instagram account has marked the occasion by saying: “Happy one year anniversary to Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex!

“Their Royal Highnesses exchanged vows at St George’s Chapel within the grounds of Windsor Castle on May 19th, 2018.

“The selected song ‘This Little Light of Mine’ was chosen by the couple for their recessional [when the wedding party exits the ceremony].

“We hope you enjoy reliving this moment, and seeing some behind the scenes photos from this special day.”

It continues: “A message from The Duke & Duchess: Thank you for all of the love and support from so many of you around the world.

“Each of you made this day even more meaningful.”

Looking relaxed and unposed, the pictures have racked up more than one million views on their Insta account – which boast more than eight million followers – with many people congratulating them.

One person said that they were alongside others in London on the big day, “crying with thousands. So proud. Amazing to see a self-made woman find the love of her life, and meet her equal.

“Thank you both for all of the good you do in the world.”

Another commented: “Happy anniversary. Thank you for sharing your precious memories.”

Where was the wedding ceremony held?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's nuptials were held at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018, and featured a rip-roaring sermon from an American preacher, along with a moving rendition of Stand By Me by a black gospel choir.

Their wholly modern ceremony was a far cry from Royal Weddings of previous generations and showed the Monarchy mirroring modern Britain.

The Most Rev Michael Curry, the first presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church in New York, moved millions watching the ceremony as he spoke about the power of love.

Mr Curry opened his speech with the words of Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King Jr, who said: "We must discover the power of love, the redemptive power of love.

"And when we do that, we will be able to make of this old world a new world. Love is the only way."
