Sir Winston Churchill’s victory speech will play across Britain to commemorate VE Day – The Sun

THE voice of Sir Winston Churchill will ring out across towns and cities to mark the 75th anniversary of the fall of the Nazis.

Famous extracts from the late World War Two leader’s victory speech will be broadcast in public spaces throughout the UK.

Millions will hear the historic recording of him announcing the end of the war in Europe.

The extracts from the Imperial War Museum’s sound archive will boom out from speakers at exactly 3pm on Friday, May 8.

In 1945, Sir Winston told a cheering crowd from a Whitehall balcony: “God bless you all. This is your victory.

“In all our long history we have never seen a greater day than this.”

And, 75 years on, his words will highlight a string of events commemorating VE Day.

Hundreds of veterans will take part in parades across the country — and the Red Arrows will perform a flypast in London.

A thanksgiving is to held at Westminster Abbey.

And street parties will be thrown in cities, towns and villages to recreate celebrations of the Allied victory.

Workers will enjoy a long weekend as the day has been declared a public Bank Holiday by the PM.

Boris Johnson said yesterday: “This anniversary marks a historic moment for our great country to come together and reflect on the heroes of the Second World War.

“No one will ever forget what they sacrificed.”
