It’s the Christmas tradition that allows cheeky parents everywhere to indulge in a little mischief and a lot of creativity.<\/span><\/p>\n Elf on the Shelf is based on a 2005 children’s picture book of the same name, written by American authors Carol V. Aebersold and Bell Chanda.<\/span><\/p>\n The story tells the tale of how scout elves are dispatched to homes from the North Pole at the start of Advent. Their job is to tell Santa who’s been naughty or nice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Part of the elves’ trickery is they ‘mysteriously’ move around the house – possibly with the aid of parents – leaving kids confused and quite possibly on their best behaviour.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The book has led to a global trend for parents using Elf on the Shelf toys – and the countless imitations it has spawned – to keep their little ones in line in the run up to Christmas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Now, parents joining in on the fun have taken to social media to share pictures of their clever, hilarious and inspired naughty elf ideas – but these suggestions, first shared on\u00a0BoredPanda could wreak havoc in your household.<\/span><\/p>\n One Redditor shared their sister’s creepy elf on a shelf which has been trapped tightly inside a large mason jar with brown string. It’ll be sure to keep its eyes on her little ones!<\/p>\n This Elf on the Shelf wasn’t too pleased about this year’s cookie selection, which appear to be dog treats<\/p>\n Cheeky little Elf has been jealous of Frosty the Snowman and has decided to melt him – but little do the children know, it wasn’t the elf, but their parents that were up to no good…<\/p>\n This elf is climbing a wall to access a family home, en route to spy on the children – have they been naughty or nice?<\/p>\n \u00a0In a carefully orchestrated snap posted by Kiwi mother Tracey, her elf is trapped and seeking immediate ‘help’ – he needs saving as he’s found himself tangled in a spider web, with a tarantula lurking directly on top of him<\/p>\n This elf looks gleeful as he is sat in a bathtub full of what appear to be Bratz and Barbie dolls,\u00a0 which prompted one Redditor to brand him ‘Hugh Elfner’<\/p>\n This poor elf has caught himself trapped in a neon pink balloon, and asked his homeowners to ‘help me’.
