Mary Earps, born March 7, 1993, is an English professional footballer, who plays as a goalkeeper for Manchester United in the Women\u2019s Super League and the England national team.<\/p>\n
She began playing football as a youngster, after spotting her brother and Dad kicking a football around the garden – and a keen Earps wanted to join because "it looked fun".<\/p>\n
Earps told England Football this was the moment "that was the beginning of a love story.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
In December 2023, BBC Sport announced the shortlist for the Sport\u2019s Personality of the Year Award – and one notable name to make the cut was Mary Earps.<\/p>\n
The award recognises the personality that has most captivated the British public over the past calendar year.<\/p>\n Taking to Instagram in December 2023, to share the proud moment with fans and followers, Earps wrote: \u2018\u2019Wow. Huge thank you to @BBCSport for my Sport Personality of the Year nomination – mega that!<\/p>\n \u2018\u2019Make sure to tune in to BBC One on Tuesday 19th December from 7pm #BBCSPOTY.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n In December 2022, Beth Mead became the first female footballer to take home the celebrated trophy.<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Prior to her nomination, Earps picked up the gong for the BBC Women's Footballer of the Year in November 2023.<\/p>\n The Manchester United Women's star also picked up the Fifa Best Women's Goalkeeper award.<\/p>\n Aside from sporting success, Earps has also found social media success.<\/p>\n The sports star is known as the 'TikTok Queen' among her peers, drawing more than one million followers to her account thanks to her hilarious and heartwarming videos – which pal and fellow football star Millie Bright is often roped into.<\/p>\n Some of the most memorable include various dance routines the pair pull off in unison.<\/p>\n Before arriving at Manchester United in 2019, Earps, who made her senior debut in 2010, spent time playing for hometown club Nottingham Forest.<\/p>\n Earps also had stints at Bristol City, Doncaster Rovers Belles, Reading, and German giants Wolfsburg.<\/p>\n Having waited patiently for her senior team bow, which came in Switzerland in June 2017, Earps became a regular fixture in the Lionesses squad.<\/p>\n She was named in a major tournament squad for the second time in a row when she went to the FIFA Women's World Cup in France in 2019.<\/p>\n In the summer of 2022, Earps played an integral part in England's success at the European Championships, keeping four clean sheets in six appearances at the tournament, and was named in UEFA's official Team of the Tournament.<\/p>\n In 2023, Earps produced one of the most iconic sporting moments of the year when she saved a penalty from Spain\u2019s Jenni Hermoso in the World Cup.<\/p>\n She was voted England Women's Player of the Year for 2022-23 and even managed a fifth-placed finish in the Ballon d'Or.<\/p>\n Much to the delight of fans, Mary Earps is an active user of social media.<\/p>\n As of December 2023, Earps boasts an impressive 727k following on the social media platform Instagram – where she regularly shares a glimpse of her life both on and off the pitch.<\/p>\n Fans of the footballer can also find Earps on TikTok, where as mentioned above, she interacts with a staggering one million fans and followers and has over 16 million likes.<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/DD-SPOTY-2023-ODDS-12dec-combo-1.jpg\")
