The Crown season six teased in Netflix trailer

Season six of The Crown is the final instalment of Peter Morgan’s award-winning and highly-lauded Royal Family drama series.

Netflix will be drawing out the last season by splitting it into two parts with the first half coming out on November 16 and the second on December 14.

The forthcoming season is expected to be a sombre affair with some promise of better things to come for the Royal Family as a new chapter dawns.

What is the timeline for The Crown season 6?

As always, The Crown takes a look at various historical events and people with Morgan’s incisive and searing dramatic take on it.

Past storylines depicted in The Crown have included the tragic death of Leonora Knatchbull (played by Clara Graham), her mother mother Penelope ‘Penny’ Knatchbull (Natascha McElhone) and the Aberfan disaster.

Season 6, part 1:

Season six will start with the blossoming romance between Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and Dodi Fayed (Khalid Abdalla) in 1997.

Mohamed Al Fayed (Salim Daw) will be continuing to woo and win over the divorced Princess Diana by introducing him to her son as he plays matchmaker.

The show will cover the summer before the fateful car crash which claimed both Princess Diana and Dodi’s lives.

Audiences will see a young Prince William (Rufus Kampa) and Prince Harry (Fflyn Edwards) joining their mother on a yacht with the Fayeds as they holiday in the South of France.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles (Dominic West) will keep things traditional with a summer getaway in Balmoral, Scotland with Princess Diana’s sons heading there later.

Princess Diana longs to see her children again and makes an ill-fated trip to Paris with continued paparazzi on her tail.

Season six will then go into Princess Diana’s death on August 31, 1997 and the response from the Royal Family and will be caught off-guard.

Queen Elizabeth II (Imelda Staunton) will come under pressure from Prime Minister Tony Blaire (Bertie Carvel) to issue a response.

Mohamed will be hoping the joint tragedy will bring him closer to the Royal Family but instead he is increasingly alienated.

Viewers will see how the shockwaves of Diana’s death will continue to play out.

Season 6, part 2:

While it’s unclear whether there will be a time jump between parts one and two, the second half of the season will look at the Queen’s Golden Jubilee which took place in February 2002.

Moreover, The Crown will also be depicting the marriage of Prince Charles to Camilla Parker Bowles (Olivia Williams).

There will also be a look at Prince William’s (Ed McVey) burgeoning romance with Kate Middleton (Meg Bellamy), which begins in September 2001 when they met at the University of St Andrews.

They would date for 10 years with a break up in between before April 2011 – however, it’s not known whether their wedding will be covered or if the show will end with the marriage of Prince Charles and Camilla.
