A REBEL laundry owner who is taking on "big laundry" says that you don't need fabric softener.
Ed Willes started his laundromat company 'allavare' in 2021 pledging to take on "faceless" brands who he says don't care about the customer.
Now, Willes has revealed his three tips for washing your clothes in an Instagram post and avoiding what "big laundry" is trying to get you to spend money on.
Willes says fabric softener is "full of nasty chemicals" and puts a waxy layer over clothes, trapping in dirt and bad smells.
He also says that fabric softeners can reduce the absorbency of your towels.
"You're throwing your money down the drain quite literally," he says.

He says instead it is best to use a cup of white distilled vinegar.
Willes also reveals in the post that leaving clothes in the machine can leave them smelling and damp clothes can foster mould.
"As soon as their done washing take them out… it'll leave them smelling worse than before you washed them."
His third tip is to never use too much detergent and instead start with the minimum recommended amount and go from there.
