October has arrived which means Halloween is on the horizon, and ‘Boo Baskets’ have exploded in popularity on social media as a fun way to bring some magic into a loved one’s life.
A Boo Basket is the start is a fun autumn tradition in which people fill a basket filled with either Halloween or autumn-themed gifts to give to someone as a spooky twist on the traditional Easter basket.
It has become a massive trend on TikTok for husbands and boyfriends to surprise their significant others with a Boo Basket, but this seasonal activity can be done for anyone in your life whose favourite time of the year is autumn. People online have been making them for their best friends, moms, children, and even their dogs, but you can even make one up for yourself.
October is a time when there are lots of spooky and seasoned-themed items in stores that cannot be bought at any other time of the year, which is how the idea came about.
The most important thing to consider when making a Boo Basket is to decide if you are making it for someone who loves Halloween, which means it should be filled with items that have ghosts, witches, and spooky things on them. However, if your Boo Basket is for someone who is more in love with the autumn, which means you should look for items that have acorns, pumpkins, mushrooms, or anything more nature-themed on them.
What goes in a Boo Basket?
Basket
It is not difficult to make a Boo Basket, and it can easily be made with one simple shopping trip. The idea is to make something so that the person can have a cosy night in and a fun treat, so pretty much anything autumn or Halloween-themed can go in a Boo Basket.
The most important part of making a Boo Basket is that it should be fun. It does not have to be expensive to make one, and you can easily make a fun Boo Basket for less than £15 as you can look for items at stores such as Amazon, Aldi, Tesco, Asda, Flying Tiger, Homebase, TK Maxx and most pound shops.
The first essential part of building a Boo Basket is to have something to put the items in. This is traditionally a basket, which will also be useable after October, but many people also use a simple tick-or-treat bucket (or pumpkin pail) which can be bought for less than £1. You can also look at storage crates in the stationary section of a store as a simple and cheap way to make a Boo Basket.
Treats
One essential part of any Boo Basket is the treats, which traditionally are usually some sort of sweet. Fill a loved one’s Boo Basket with whatever their favourite snacks are such as chocolate, crisps, popcorn, hot chocolate mixture, seasonal coffee flavours, or even their favourite alcoholic beverage.
If making a Boo Basket is for multiple people, then a large variety pack of sweets is ideal and simply split the sweets amongst however many baskets you have. This time of year usually has lots of themed snacks, such as Reese’s pumpkins, Oreo vanilla Halloween cookies or a seasonal candy corn trail mix which can be found at most supermarkets.
Mug or candle
One fun Boo Basket idea is to place a themed mug in the basket as this time of year there is lots of choice for a themed-mug are is usually an appreciated gift and lots of spooky or seasonal mugs can be bought for $5 or less.
You can also place a candle in your basket to make it even more festive and cosy, as this time of year there are so many themed candle scents for you to choose from.
Something cozy
Next, putting someone cosy as the biggest focal point of the basket is usually a good idea. This can be a simple themed cuddly toy such as a squishmallow or jellycat which have both lots of fun Halloween and autumn-themed toys. If the person you are gifting the basket to does not like toys, then one is to gift them a Halloween-themed pet toy for their cat or dog.
However, you could also opt to give them a themed blanket, pyjamas, a t-shirt, or even some fluffy socks depending on your budget.

A fun activity
Another Boo Basket suggestion is to put in some kind of activity for them to do in their basket such as a book, puzzle, or even a movie. Traditionally, October is a time of horror movies so you could a DVD in, but there are also so many Halloween-themed movies that are not scary, such as Nightmare Before Christmas, Practical Magic, and Hocus Pocus.
Other autumn-themed cosy movies set at this time of year are Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society, When Harry Met Sally, Knives Out, or even Fantastic Mr Fox for a children’s movie.
Bath or shower gifts
In October there are plenty of themed bath bombs which can be bought in stores, such well as many pumpkin-flavored shower gels body scrubs, and bubble baths. There are even autumn-scented body sprays that vary in price and can be bought no matter your budget.
A decoration or something for their home
Lastly, this time of year has plenty of both Halloween and autumn decorations that do not need to be expensive. One of the cheaper options is fun window gels or stickers which the person you are gifting can put up to show everyone their love for autumn. If looking for home decorations for a Halloween Boo Basket, then you will have plenty of choices but for an autumn basket then you can also look for themed fairy lights, tablecloths, oven mitts or wreaths to get into the festive spirit.
