The Hairy Bikers: Si on spending Xmas together after Dave’s cancer battle
Hairy Bikers fans were reduced to tears on Tuesday night after Dave Myers shared an update on his cancer diagnosis. The TV chef reunited with his pal Si King as they returned to screens with their Christmas special. However, just minutes into the episode, fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter to share their thoughts.
@EmilySturge penned: “I watched the #HairyBikers Christmas programme this evening and am fully choked up by it. What a celebration of life, what a beautiful testament to friendship. I’m glad Dave’s still here to make a lovely programme like that.”
@liverbird17 shared: “Thought it was just going to be a cookery show but it was so much more. Following Dave through his cancer treatment was harrowing but great to see him getting back on his bike, I sincerely hope to see him do another Christmas special in 2024. #hairybikers.” (sic)
@simongalcock went on: “Watched the #hairybikers tonight with very wet eyes. I hope there will be a 2024 Xmas special….”
“#Hairybikers Very touching, lovely to see them back together on TV,” @ScottishJill added.

The Hairy Bikers: Coming Home for Christmas saw Dave and Si thank people throughout the year who have helped the chef on his journey towards recovery, including the doctors and nurses who helped with his treatment and the food producers who helped him to fall back in love with food.
“I’ve missed this so much, Si, being with you – being us,” Dave emotionally admitted. “It’s the first time I’ve been to visit a food producer for nearly two years.
“And it’s funny, it’s just like putting on some comfy slippers.”
The 66-year-old went on: “I’m determined to embrace every second of this magical time.
“You know, we’ve been doing this as mates for 30 years and we’re not finished yet.
“This visit has inspired us to throw a Hairy Bikers Christmas banquet to remember, just to say thank you to those people who’ve been so important, the people who have kept me alive this year, people who have fed me this year, people who have loved me this year.”
Si added: “It’s really, really important because it’s a Christmas that we didn’t think we’d have together as friends.”
The Hairy Bikers: Coming Home for Christmas is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
