Strictly Come Dancing pays tribute to Len Goodman
Anton Du Beke has shared what he dislikes most about the show and that is getting voted off the programme.
The Strictly Come Dancing pro turned judge, after he replaced Bruno Tonioli on the panel, returned to our screens on Saturday alongside head judge Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel-Horwood for the Strictly launch show on Saturday.
But while it was a show-stopping opening night, which saw Anton and his fellow judges hit the stage for a dance number, he admits it doesn’t always feel like a knees-up for him on the BBC show.
Speaking about his time as a Strictly dance professional and what still gets to him now, he said while he has made no secret of missing performing he “hated” what ultimately came with it for most of the dance pairings.
“What I would love to do one year, is to do a dance with one of the professionals for one of the artist numbers like I used to,” he said.

“There’s nothing quite like performing, it’s magical, the thing about dancing with a celebrity is you get voted off, and that’s the bit I hated.”
Perhaps that’s why Anton takes it so easy on the contestants, something which has led to his “nice” judging style being slammed by former Strictly professional Brendan Cole.
Brendan, who was part of the BBC One show for 15 years told Sky Bingo in a new chat that he could see himself on the panel if one of the judges left and unlike Anton would take no prisoners: “I would probably like to see me replace Craig [once he retires from Strictly] – but that’s a whole different world.
“Craig for me is a great judge on Strictly, my old favourite was always Len [Goodman], because Len gave a little bit of spice and a little bit of nice which made him the perfect judge, but with Craig, at least he gives a little bit of edge.

He concluded: “I think you need that from a television show otherwise it’s just dull. The show will need that bit of aggression replaced, otherwise you can’t have Anton being nice to every single person and then another person being nice to every single person – it will get boring.”
Anton is enjoying his role as a judge but admitted to longing to be back on the dance floor. “I’m loving being a judge, but I am missing the dancing a bit,” he told Good Morning Britain hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley last year.
Strictly returned to screens on Saturday night with 15 celebrities introduced and paired with their dancing professionals.
The dance couples were also revealed and fans got a glimpse of what they’ve all been working on as the famous faces took to the floor.
