Sources revealed at the time that the pair had been staying at the same hotel and began to get close after enjoining a chance meeting.
It was after this meeting that the duo discovered they had a number of shared interests and were also able to lean on each other after sadly losing a spouse in just a short time of each other.
Kelis’s second husband Mike Mora sadly passed away in March 2002, while Bill’s estranged wife Jennifer Butler had died just one year prior to this in 2001.
It was partly through this shared experience that the couple were able to bond.
However, despite hinting at a romance, neither Kelis nor Bill have ever publicly confirmed they were together, although Kelis did tease that they were “both blessed, rich and happy” when directly questioned by fans on social media.
In response to the unlikely romance at the time, fans were left in shock over the surprise pairing, with many taking to Twitter to share their confusion.
Opting for a play on words with Kelis' music, one fan wrote: “Didn’t expect her milkshake to bring this boy to the yard.”
