Amanda Abbington admits she’s ‘scared’ ahead of Strictly debut
Strictly Come Dancing star Giovanni Pernice shares two pieces of advice with his celebrity partner in the seconds before they strut their stuff on the show.
Asked about pre-show rituals with his partner, he said: “Stay with them until the last second. Make sure you remind them the two points.”
He went on to reveal that each week he works on two specific points in whichever dance they are doing so the points can vary.
“I always fix two points in the week when I say to my partner ‘OK, for the dance we have to do…this and this’.” As an example, he cited ballroom saying: “For instance when it comes to the ballroom for me it’s position and knees.
“So at the last second before the VT I say to my partner ‘position’ ‘knees’,” he said speaking on the Strictly Come Dancing: The Official Podcast

The 33-year-old Italian has been on Strictly since 2015 and has made four finals, winning one in 2021 with former EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis.
Previously Giovanni had made it to the final with Steps star Faye Tozer in 2018, Debbie McGee in 2017 and Coronation Street actor Georgia May Foote in 2015.
This year, he is partnered with Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington, 49, and the pair have shut down rumours of a feud after it was claimed there was “tension” behind the scenes.
Taking to social media, Amanda shared a photograph of herself during rehearsals and wrote: “The smile you give your pro partner at the end of the camera rehearsal when you know you are in safe and hugely talented hands.

Latin champion Giovanni was equally gushing as she re-shared Amanda’s Instagram Story accompanied by a sweet caption.
“I usually don’t say those things early (as probably everybody know) but I’m extremely proud of you and I can’t wait for people to watch what we have created.” (sic)
Amanda and Giovanni danced the Viennese Waltz to Lewis Capaldi’s tear-jerking ballad, Pointless, for their first performance.
Giovanni’s two points seemed to have worked as they scored an impressive 29 from the judges putting them joint second on the leaderboard with three other couples.
