BBC Breakfast: Mistake as Samira cut off with old Huw Edwards clip
BBC Breakfast was thrown into chaos today when they inadvertently aired an old Newswatch clip featuring Huw Edwards.
The archive clip, which featured Samira Ahmed introducing the report, showed the Welsh presenter talking about Hurricane Maria and the mistake was quickly realised as they cut back to the sofa where presenter Ben Thompson was forced to issue an apology.
“So you might have noticed – the eagle-eyed viewers amongst you – that was quite an old episode of Newswatch,” he said.
Fumbling over his words he continued: “So we’ll find the right one and make sure we can bring that to you later. Apologies. A few technical gremlins this end.”
The gaffe didn’t go unnoticed by viewers who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to comment on it.

Someone with the handle @HughEdw31897368, who reiterated they are “not the newsreader” commented: “What a monumental f**k up showing a very old #bbcnewswatch. They even got as far as showing a clip of Huw Edwards before they realised their mistake.” (sic)
@StephK1982 chimed in: “Oh god how awkward – cut it off just as Hue came on #BBCBreakfast.” (sic)
@Royraces questioned the clip asking: “OK, who put that old edition of Newswatch on? Was it deliberate….??? Anyway, thanks BBC for one of the great c***-ups.” (sic)
Meanwhile @HJMKent found the humour in it writing: “BBC love a repeat, doesn’t it! Now it’s repeating a 3yo edition of #Newswatch!”

Huw hasn’t been seen on screens since he was confirmed as the presenter at the centre of the BBC sex scandal.
In July, his wife Vicky Flind named him as the presenter facing allegations over payments for sexually explicit images, while making a statement on his behalf.
In her statement, she said her husband was “suffering from serious mental health issues” and is now “receiving in-patient hospital care where he will stay for the foreseeable future”, as she asked for privacy for her family.
BBC Breakfast is on BBC One from 6am daily.
