BBC Strictlys Bobby Brazier: ‘Im the favourite because Im young and fun

Twenty-year-old actor Bobby Brazier has managed to scoop a National Television Award for Rising Star, just one year after his EastEnders debut where he plays Freddie Slater. He follows in the footsteps of Coronation Street actor, Paddy Bever, who plays Max Turner, and won the Rising Star award last year.

The NTA’s were a huge success for EastEnders. Actress Danielle Harold (Lola Pearce) won Serial Drama Performance, and the soap as a whole won the Serial Drama award.

Freddie is a popular character with viewers, so luckily Bobby has revealed he won’t be leaving Walford permanently for the sake of Strictly.

“I’m taking a break,” he reveals. “I’ve filmed it already, and no I’m not telling you about it. But I’ll be back.”

In recent episodes, Freddie’s one-night stand with Anna (Molly Rainford) was outed by Alfie. Bobby was mortified about their fling, after expressing his feelings to Anna before. With a fallout with his best friend Bobby (Clay Milner-Russell) pending, could Freddie leave Albert Square to give his best mate some space after his betrayal?

Bobby is also one of the bookies’ favourites to be the champion of Strictly Come Dancing 2023 – a fact that he’s shocked by. “They have no reason to think that,” he laughs. “It’s only because I’m young, and apparently quite fun.”

As for what he’s most looking forward to during the competition, dancing didn’t even come into the equation. “I’m looking forward to the journey that I’m going to go on with my partner – and my friends now,” he says with a smile. “It’s going to be so beautiful. They’re going to see me at my best and my worst, and it’s a really sweet thing.”

The competition gets higher every week as one celeb gets voted out, but there’s a sense of comradery between them this year. Bobby donned Zara McDermott a “sweetheart” after hearing she’s looking forward to her grandparents being in the ballroom.

In terms of his biggest competition, Bobby is worried about comedian Eddie Kadi and what he’ll be bringing to the show.

“I tell you, Eddie’s hips, oh my god,” he laughs. “Wow, they are no joke – I am inspired by his hips.”

Bobby admits that he’s likely to be “excited” to hear what the judges have to say. But that he also might give them a run for their money. “It depends what state of mind I’m in,” he confesses, “And how much sleep I’ve had!”
