Love Island champ Jess Harding has spoken out about her “sad” split from Sammy Root.
The pair struck up a relationship on this year’s series of the ITV2 dating show. After winning over the nation, Jess and Sammy were crowned champs and walked out of Mallorca Villa, with a newfound relationship and £50,000 in their pocket.
However, just three months after finding love on the show, the pair have called it quits – with their split confirmed on Tuesday (October 3). And now, Jess has broken her silence on the matter.

During a Q&A on Instagram she said: "It's been over a week now since we split, so I'm getting there. We shared a once in a lifetime experience together, so of course I'm sad."
She was also quizzed on the reasons behind their break-up, but chose not to reveal too much. She said: “I really don't want to go into detail by doing a big statement, but we're just very different and behave differently and that's it."
It comes after Sammy addressed their split – and suggested he didn’t know they had broken up until reports started circulating online. Taking to his own social media he wrote: “Hi guys, I thought I would come online to address today's news about me and Jess."
A heartbroken Sammy went on: “Yes we had a private conversation regarding our relationship but this was left up in the air as Jess is still away and we haven't had a chance to speak in person. For me to then see today via the media that we had officially broken up came as a total shock.”
He continued: "To be totally clear – I at least wanted a face to face conversation to see if our relationship could be saved and felt this would be the respectful way forward. We had the most incredible experience winning Love Island and I genuinely saw a future with Jess."
Sammy finished off by saying: "I was committed and respectful to our relationship. Unfortunately things don't always work out the way you'd hoped. Despite how this has all played out today. I think Jess is an amazing woman and genuinely wish her all the best.”

The news doesn't come as a surprise to the Love Island community, with many eagle-eyed fans realising that they hadn't posted each other on their social media for a couple of weeks. Unsurprisingly, they had started to fear the worst. And now, those concerns have proved valid.
The last time they appeared together publically was during The Sun's Who Cares Gives Awards in London on September 19, where they seemed loved-up as they posed for photos. Just two weeks prior, they attended the National Television Awards, where they claimed the whole Love Island cast was like a “big family” and everyone had been “really nice” to them since they emerged as champions.
