Chloe Madeley has shared a rare insight into her relationship with James Haskell, admitting that the pair experienced the "hardest period" of their marriage after welcoming their first child.
Chloe, 36, who is the daughter of TV stars Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, opened up about her marriage to ex-rugby player James, 38, in a candid new interview, where she spoke about how welcoming their daughter Bodhi, 14 months, last year impacted their relationship.
The mum-of-one admitted that she began to struggle when Bodhi was around four months old, as she was "extremely anxious" and "stressed out", but James' djing career had began to take off so he was away a lot.
She explained how James had started to experience success as a DJ during her final months of pregnancy, and despite taking a few weeks off after Bodhi's birth he was eventually back out DJing again, or out with pals.
"That four/five month point, where he was off DJing again, and even when he wasn’t working at night, he’d go on a night out with his friends. The expectant nature of, it’s OK because she’s with the baby," Chloe admitted on Heart’s Dirty Mother Pukka podcast.
James' partying and busy schedule has caused arguments between him and Chloe, who told how she even makes him sleep in the spare room as punishment for being out until the early hours with his pals.
"It’s all-out war. I don’t have a filter. I pretty much say what I think and feel all the time, which is actually really to my detriment and gets me in a trouble a lot of the time. But it genuinely helps me manage my anxiety being “authentic”. I’ll message him and say, stay in the spare room tonight I don’t want you coming into the room," the mum-of-one said.
However, Chloe said that while she and James argue they figure it out afterwards and are keen to find ways to prevent the rows from happening again. She also admitted that being in the public eye makes their rough patches "even worse".
She said on the podcast: "Looking at the last year and a half of my life with my third trimester and then with Bodhi the first year of her life, it has definitely been the hardest time period on my near decade long relationship with James without a shadow of a doubt. Made even worse that we are absolutely voluntary in the public eye."
However, Chloe noted that being in the public eye can actually prompt her and James to resolve their issues quicker as she feels there is more "at stake".
James and Chloe met nearly 10 years ago and tied the knot in 2018, before going on to welcome their first child in August 2022.
