Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will have a "California Christmas" instead of joining the Royal Family at Sandringham House this year.
This month it was speculated if The Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be invited to spend Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham House, in Norfolk, despite the ongoing rift. It comes after reports suggested Harry and Meghan are "keen for reconciliation" after the prince reportedly called his father, King Charles, for his birthday earlier this month.
However, royal expert Jennie Bond spoke exclusively to OK! and said the possibility of this could cause "major disruption" and "upset" for Prince William and Kate Middleton amid the ongoing rift. She said: "I can’t see how Charles could invite Harry and Meghan without causing major disruption and upsetting William and Kate, who would presumably refuse to attend.
"So I don’t think they will be invited for Christmas."
William's relationship with his younger brother has been in a downward spiral since 2019 and has only worsened following the release of Harry's explosive memoir Spare in January 2023. As Harry and Meghan won't be attending Sandringham this year, Jennie shared what they'd be up doing for Christmas instead.
The journalist and TV presenter told us: "Personally, I think it’s still a bit early to expect Harry and Meghan to be flying over [for Christmas]. Maybe in the coming year though.
"So, with Meghan still firmly estranged from almost her entire US family, I imagine the Sussex's will be having a California Christmas with her mother, Doria, joining in."
Spending the festive period away from his family, Jennie said: "I think it’s inevitable that Harry has moments of missing his life back in the UK, his friends, his family, his roots.
"He wrote movingly in his book about his memories of when the family were altogether, sharing Christmas good cheer and having fun. He clearly misses aspects of his life in the UK.
"But his relationship with his brother will have to be sorted out before that can happen again. And that seems like being a very, very long way off."
Relationship expert and co-founder of So Syncd Louella Alderson spoke further about their Christmas plans with the Mirror and said: "Even though Harry won't be spending Christmas with the UK this year, he will most likely still have a loving and supportive community to celebrate with. They'll also have the opportunity to create new holiday traditions with their children and their American family members, which can bring excitement and joy to the festivities.
"It's possible that Christmas with the Royal Family in Britain is quite an intense experience, so having a quieter and more relaxed Christmas in America could be a more enjoyable and stress-free experience for Meghan and Harry.
"Overall, as long as they are surrounded by love and support from their chosen family, Meghan and Harry will likely have a merry Christmas regardless of who they spend it with."
