Tributes have poured in for darts star Toon Greebe following his death at the age of 35.
The Dutchman, who twice competed at the PDC's World Darts Championship and once beat fellow countryman Michael van Gerwen, saw his professional career cut short in 2014 due to long-term health problems, namely diabetes.
He had his right foot amputated in late 2017 as a result of a severe infection and lost the lower part of his left leg last year, while also suffering with kidney issues. His passing was announced on Monday (October 16).

The PDC said they were "saddened" to learn of the tragic news and sent their condolences to Greebe's family and friends. That sentiment was echoed by the World Darts Federation, whose Polish Open was won by Greebe in 2019.
"The WDF are saddened to learn of the passing of the 2019 Polish Open champion Toon Greebe," they said. "On behalf of everyone at the WDF, we extend our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to Toon's friends and family at this difficult time."
Paul Nicholson, the 2010 Players Championship victor, took to X, formerly Twitter, and wrote: "Desperately sad day for all who knew Toon. I'll remember his sense of humour most of all. RIP dude."
Meanwhile, fellow darts player Ryan Palmer added: "Very sad news! Played (against) Toon a couple of times, RIP Toon."
The Dutch Darts Association continued the tributes, with their statement reading: "We have received the sad news that former Dutch team player Toon Greebe passed away on Monday morning at the age of 35. We wish his family and friends a lot of strength in this difficult time."
