BBC Breakfast’s Naga Muchetty has shared a major piece of advice to contestant Adam Thomas ahead of his first dance on Strictly Come Dancing.

During Thursday’s (September 21) visit to the BBC studios, the 48-year-old welcomed viewers back to the signature red sofa with her co-host Ben Thompson.

The presenting duo discussed some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines this morning this morning which included the concerns surrounding the Prime Ministers plans for green policies and the new studies found in patients with Alzheimer’s.

But arguably the most exciting interview the pair had on the show was their chat with the Waterloo Road star and his professional dance partner Luba Mushtuk ahead of the first show of the BBC One ballroom series.

Just two days before he takes to the stage for the first live show, the broadcaster asked him how confident he was in his routine. He confessed: "I've seen a couple of the other celebrities dancing and put it this way – I am no threat.

"There's quite a few [good dancers] out there but I'm just focusing on my own little journey and I'm just looking forward to getting out on that dancefloor and putting out a little bit of dad dancing and seeing what we can do."

Naga then shared the backstage bets the team have put on the current contestants to win the competition this year. She explained: "We were having a chat about you today and the makeup team thinks that you're a dark horse."

The actor couldn't help but burst into laughter, as he reassured her: "I'm definitely not a dark horse! If you're a betting man, don't put your money on me – trust me!" It was at this point that the presenter passed on her words of wisdom to help encourage him before the first performance.

She advised: "No because it's not just about – I mean, of course the dancing's important but it's not everything – It's about improvement, it's about passion, it's about how you change isn't it? You know this. Trust me, never go in not confident, go in determined to be the best."

Adam chuckled: "Well I need to change then, you know what, I'm going to win this, I'm going to win this show! We can do this." Naga couldn't help but quip: "There you go, you can pay me later."

It comes after the former Emmerdale star opened up about the impact of his recent diagnosis with rheumatoid arthritis.
