Strictly Come Dancing can be daunting, so Bad Education actor, Layton Williams, 28, reveals he’s already got his own mantra for the live shows, “Go out there, feel cute and slay!”
One of the most exciting parts of Strictly for the audience is to see who the celebs will be partnered with and that was a highlight for Layton too, who explains the process was a bit like ‘speed-dancing’ as opposed to speed-dating!
“I’m in awe of all the male dancers,” admits Layton. “When we had our little taster day, we were going around and I had a thought who it might be – then it would change every time I switched partners.”
The outfits that the Strictly crew create are extraordinary and Layton reveals he’s up for wearing pretty much anything to tell the story of the dance.
“As long as it’s fabulous, as long as it’s me and authentic to what I would represent,” he says. “I dress many different ways when I’m Layton, so why wouldn’t I do that on Strictly? I want to represent me, and represent my community.”
Prior to starting the show, the celebrities have also revealed they can suggest their favourite songs to dance to, and Layton hopes to get a few choices from his playlist.
“It is the gayest, most girl-pop group playlist you’ve ever heard in your life,” says Layton of his selection. “Queen after queen after queen and icons – hopefully they pick a couple of the songs. But I trust they know what they’re doing when it comes to the decisions. The team knows what’s going to entertain, so I’m ready to go along for the ride.”
Layton has done so much already in his career, from touring with Everybody’s Talking about Jamie, to appearing on Bad Education as Stephen Carmichael, as well as starring in I Hate Suzie and I Kissed a Boy.
“This past year has been fab,” Layton says. “I’ve been putting my fingers in different pies which has been lovely. I’m back on the set of Bad Education, but I’m writing now. It’s the first time I’ve ever done a voiceover so more things, more challenges. And I’ve never done a competition, so I’m excited."
“It feels like a big hug to everything you’ve done in your career," he continues. "It’s like you’ve done enough things for enough people to appreciate and to want to watch you go out on a Saturday night and shake your booty. How fab!”
