Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor has dropped a hint that Tim Metcalfe dies at the hands of serial killer Stephen Reid.
The 60 year old actress has revealed how her character Sally Metcalfe becomes increasingly concerned next week that husband Tim, played by Joe Duttine, has become the murderer’s fourth victim in a final twist. Sally has been unaware of Stephen’s crimes but begins to worry when other Weatherfield residents vow to bring down the killer, played by Todd Boyce.
Now, actress Sally has opened up on the moment her character begins to fear for Tim. It comes after a body is found in the canal – but viewers already know that it isn’t Tim’s – it’s Teddy Thompkins.
Speaking to the Mirror, Sally said: "She's in Roy's Rolls with Gail, when Elaine comes in and says that the Platts have all been chatting, and Stephen has murdered people that he didn't get on with. It clicks with Sally.
“She goes, 'Oh my God, he never got on with Tim!' Sally and Gail and Elaine hear about the body at the canal, and decide that they're going to take a walk and see what's going on.”
Sally added: "After the canal, they go to the police station and they tell the police everything they know, and say, 'Is that body Tim's?' Sally comes out with it and just says, 'You have to tell me, he's my husband,' and he says, 'No, it's actually not your husband, because he's only been missing a couple of nights and this body's been in there a while.'
“So there's a bit of relief, but Sally has no idea what's happened."
But later Tim’s bloodied wallet is found – the biggest clue that he has become Stephen’s victim.
Sally added: "She takes her through to the back and she says, 'Look, we did find this,' and it's Tim's wallet that Sally got him for [their] anniversary. So then, obviously, Sally's really, really worried, and then I'm sure she really believes that Stephen has got something to do with this.
“[She's] confused by it all. What happened? Is he still alive? Has Stephen got him?"
ITV released spoilers this week that showed how serial killer Stephen, who has already murdered three people, plans to flee Weatherfield as the other residents of Coronation Street work out what he had been up to.
Carla Connor, played by Alison King, becomes convinced Stephen has been dosing her up on LSD – but she can’t prove it without evidence. But after discovering a one way ticket to Thailand, she sees DS Swain (Vicky Myers) and insists Stephen needs to be apprehended because he’s dangerous and a flight risk.
Meanwhile, in the scenes set to be aired next week, Tim Metcalfe is distracted from his wedding anniversary plans with Sally Webster when he hears about Stephen’s recent interest in canal dredging. Tim ventures down to the canal path where he discovers a corpse but as he races back to his cab to call the police, suddenly the line goes dead.
Stephen climbs into the backseat of the cab and tries to strangle him. Tim manages to escape and makes a bid for freedom but Stephen knocks him unconscious with a brick.
Fans are left wondering whether Tim has become another of Stephen’s victims.
