Matthew Wolfenden cries on This Morning over his Emmerdale exit montage
Lydia Dingle (played by Karen Blick) has been struggling in silence since she was raped by Craig Reed (Ben Addis) in Emmerdale.
She set fire to the clothes she wore at the time of the attack and has been keeping the trauma to herself for days.
Lydia actress Karen recently opened up to Express.co.uk about her character potentially telling Kim Tate (Claire King) about the ordeal.
Lydia said Kim is an “obvious choice” for someone she can confide in as she is not part of the Dingle family or linked to them.
Speaking about Lydia’s difficult return to work after the assault, Karen said: “Lydia just shuts down, ‘I am not going there, I am not discussing this.’

The actress said Lydia feels she cannot open up to her family, especially her husband Sam Dingle (James Hooton).
“Kim provides that distance but there is also that friendship the two women have,” the Emmerdale star added.
“I think Kim will be a good sound source of advice and guidance.”

Lydia has to see her attacker at work following the rape and she’s “re-traumatised when she sees him”.
Karen shared: “Our body has PTSD, seeing him brings up images of what happened and the thoughts and feelings regarding that.
“Craig knows their financial situation and knows Lydia needed the job. We see Lydia going back to the offices where it happened and that is horrendous for Lydia.
“She’s having to go to work pretty much every day, back to the place where it happened and see the perpetrator who is denying it even happened.
“She’s been gaslit and it is compounding her day-to-day life and feelings of self-guilt.”
Karen continued: “As time progresses, she becomes worse as she feels she will be even less credible.
“It’s very difficult and I feel the scenes after when we see Lydia with Craig, they were harder to film than the attack in some ways.
“It’s an absolutely horrendous situation for Lydia and we do see the toll and the impact keeping this ordeal a secret has.”
