How ITV's gritty new drama Payback had to halt filming after fans rushed set | The Sun

ITV'S GRITTY new drama Payback had to halt filming after fans rushed the show's set.

The new thriller, which explores money laundering and criminal gangs, will debut next month.

It stars The Bay actress Morven Christie and Lord of the Rings' Peter Mullan.

Morven, 42, plays the role of an account and mum who becomes entangled in a police operation to tackle a crime lord.

She learns how her husband Jared has been laundering a dangerous criminal's money.

Peter, 63, portrays the notorious criminal who won't stop at nothing to get his money.

The gritty ITV drama was shot in Glasgow and features a number of scenes on location.

However, it resulted in filming being halted multiple times after fans spotted Peter Mullan on set.

Speaking about the experience, Morven joked: "If you’re on the Royal Mile like we were, you can have Peter Mullan stepping out of the close to look across the road at me and you just get people coming up going ‘oh big man I love you, you’re one of my favourites!’

"So that was one of the challenges. We had four different weathers that day, literally.

"We had to stop multiple times for people coming up saying ‘I love you Peter Mullan’."

Morven also revealed she has experienced fraud before – and did no background research before playing the role.

She said: "I did no studying on dirty money. I’ve experienced financial fraud, I mean it has happened to me.

"But really from a character perspective, it really wasn’t relevant to me.

"This character is an accountant, she’s got a financial savvy but she’s coming at it with some sort of experience which means she can unpick it and understand but she’s also going ‘what is this’.

"So I don’t think it would have been helpful for me to be an expert on anything financial."
