Im A Celebrity in chaos after viewers switch off following Farage boycott

Gogglebox stars discuss Nigel Farage on I’m A Celeb

I’m A Celebrity figures have plummeted once again as a further 1.3 million people switched off compared to Monday’s episode.

This Saturday’s episode – which was aired at the later time of 9.30pm after losing its usual slot – was viewed by 5.5 million people, according to reports.

On average, 4.8 million viewers tuned into the celebrity competition series, which was over 1 million less than Monday night’s figures of 6.1 million.

Last year, the reality ITV series saw a peak audience of 7.8 million viewers watching.

The reports come as audiences have been vocal about boycotting the show over Nigel Farage’s pay cheque.

The former UKIP party leader is reportedly set to earn a staggering £1.5million while appearing on the show.

Despite the backlash from his appearance on the series, it has also emerged that the Brexit campaigner could be set to release a pin-up calendar.

Since the GB News host was revealed in the line-up, long-time fans of the show announced plans to boycott it, and the ratings dip has been branded “the Farage effect”.

The signing of the politician has proved controversial as Nigel is a famously divisive figure, who is known for his right-wing views on immigration and gender pay gaps.

Nearly 10,000 people have been using the hashtag “Boycott I’m A Celeb”.

In 2022, the I’m A Celebrity… launch got an audience of over 10 million people at its peak – up two million from the previous year.

That was despite former health secretary, Matt Hancock being paid £400k to join the line-up, donating 3 [per cent] of that fee to charity.

Taking to X, one user wrote: “ITV notoriously choose the most heinous politicians. They secure these guests by promising to show ‘another side’ to them.”

Another commented: “I wrote to @itv to complain about Farage going on #BoycottImACeleb. Have received a really pathetic, standard response from their team.”

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight on ITV at 9pm.
