Sunday Brunchs Simon Rimmer says its time to move on in career announcement

Simon Rimmer announces his return to Sunday Brunch

Simon Rimmer took to Instagram to share his decision to “withdraw” from one of his restaurants.

The chef, who recently took some time away from hosting Channel 4 show Sunday Brunch, revealed he felt it was “time for me to move on” from The Scene by Simon Rimmer, his gastropub based in Dubai.

Simon typed: The Scene by Simon Rimmer’ will now be known simply as ‘The Scene’.

“After 9 great years it’s time for me to move on and focus my time on my exciting and growing UK businesses. So, I have made the decision to withdraw from the Dubai hospitality market.

“Winning best British Restaurant 2 years running, being at the forefront of the evolution of Dubai’s casual dining explosion and being Dubai marina’s ‘local’ for so many people are some of the many highlights of my association with The Scene.

“I’m sure Alex and the team will continue to serve great food and great drinks as well as providing live entertainment for all the family in its unique and exclusive location.

“Thanks to everyone who’s made my Dubai adventure so exciting and memorable. Simon x.”

Fans took to the comments section to share their thoughts on Simon’s career move.

“Shame, always enjoyed it,” one customer admitted.

Another added: “Best of luck. Was my favourite local for a chill eat & beer when I lived there. Watching the zip liners. Good luck mate.”

A third person commented: “All the best for the future !”

The Scene treated Dubai foodies to British pub classics and comfort food.

The eatery is known for its spectacular views across the Marina and a homely British gastropub atmosphere, according to Time Out Dubai.

Simon also owns vegetarian restaurant Greens in the UK, which he first opened in Manchester back in 1990 with his business partner.

He then expanded his restaurant empire by opening another eatery named Food by 1998.

Simon’s decision to focus on his UK restaurants comes after he was struck down with Covid and had to take time off Sunday Brunch, which he co-hosts with Simon Rimmer.

The TV chef also suffered a devastating loss after his “dear dad” died just two months earlier.

He recently spoke out on his return to the Channel 4 show, while thanking fans for their support.

“I’ll see you on Sunday Brunch on Sunday because I’m fully fit again now,” he promised, teasingly letting out a cough by assuring the audience: “No, I am, I am!”

The star added: “This is really just a quick thank you to everybody. It’s two months, unbelievably, since my dear dad died and the level of support from everybody – friends, family, you guys on social media, it’s just been really, really lovely and it has made a difference.”

He added that even his mum, “who has been brilliant”, had been overwhelmed by the public support after he made the sad announcement that he’d lost his father Peter, at the age of 89.

Peter died at a hospital in Merseyside after a long battle with cancer, during which he’d outlived doctors’ estimates by decades.
