Ex-Pandora employee lifts the lid on why the sales assistants always ask customers the most random questions | The Sun

A WOMAN who used to work at Pandora has revealed the reason the sales assistants always bombard you with random questions.

Rachel Quogan worked in the jewellery store for two years, and has her fair share of stories from her time in the role.

She took to TikTok to share some of them, as she revealed that working there meant they had certain targets to hit.

They also had a "really strict mystery shopper process".

"A lot of that included upselling and asking a lot of open questions," she added.

"So if you've ever shopped at Pandora and the cashier is asking you loads of random questions – like who you're shopping for, what's the occasion.

"And that's why I promise you, we don't care – it's just a mystery shopping process."

They were also encouraged to "up sell".

"So no matter what you were looking for in store – if it was a small ring, we would have to try and up sell you the matching necklace, the matching bracelet, some other rings that might stack nicely with it," she said.

"Like I said, this was also part of the mystery shopping process but also part of our KPIs (key performance indicators) that we were heavily targeted on."

There were other downsides to the job too – like the fact that they had to wear make-up and have their hair out of their face.

They also had to wear a personalised jewellery set that wasn't their own, but one they'd designed themselves.

"And whenever we came into shift, we would put that jewellery set on," she explained.

"The only thing that we did have to purchase ourselves was the earrings, for obvious reasons.

"We did get a 50% discount on all of the earrings for uniform."

Rachel also dispelled rumours that working at Pandora was a "b**chy environment", insisting that she'd made some of her best friends while in the job.

And when it came to her favourite kind of customers – men were at the very top of the list.

"Because 95% of the time, they didn't have a clue what they were buying," she laughed.

"So this was a really perfect example to up sell to them.

"I remember they would literally walk in and be like 'I need a bracelet, don't know what kind of bracelet, don't know what I'm looking for'.

"So we would get all these charms, all these different kinds of bracelets, the safety chains to go with it, and also not forgetting the matching earrings and necklace to that bracelet."

Rachel also revealed that people used to come in on Christmas Eve asking for the most popular charms, and got annoyed when they weren't in stock.

"Customers were so rude sometimes," she recalled.

"One of my best friends actually got a book thrown at her – the little Pandora booklets you used to get that had all of our products in.

"We didn't have what they wanted in stock so they threw the book at my friend."

She also slammed the customers that had "zero sense of hygiene" – such as the woman who put her entire finger in her mouth to try and get a ring off that was stuck on her finger.

"Sometimes there's no words and no facial expressions to hide how you're feeling in moments like that!" she laughed.
